Mobile App Development Prices: How Much Does an App Cost?
Published:
What an app starts from with us
A mobile app starts from $360 with us. The exact price depends on the number of screens, whether a server is needed and the systems the app connects to; we send a quote after we talk through the scope.
1. iOS, Android or both
Today most apps can be built for both iOS and Android from a single codebase with frameworks such as Flutter or React Native. That is much cheaper than writing two separate apps. The two platforms still need their own testing and store preparation.
You can also start on one platform and add the other later; start with whichever phone most of your users have.
2. Number of screens and design
Every screen is designed, coded and tested; the number of screens is the most direct indicator of the price. Working with ready interface components is cheaper, while an interface and animations drawn for your brand add work.
3. Server, accounts and admin panel
If the app runs only on the phone, the job is smaller. If you need user login, stored data, push notifications or an admin panel where you update the content, a server is written behind it too, and it has a monthly hosting cost.
The same team builds the server behind the app, so the phone and server sides are written to fit each other.
4. Payments and subscriptions
If the app sells something digital (a subscription, a premium feature), Apple and Google require their own payment systems and take a commission on those sales; for small developers it is usually 15 percent. For physical goods or services, a regular payment gateway can be used.
5. Store costs
A Google Play developer account is a one-off $25 and the Apple Developer Program is $99 a year (prices at the time of writing). It is best for the app to be published from your own account, so the store page and user reviews stay with you.
Apple and Google review apps before they go live; an app prepared to the store rules gets through faster.
6. Upkeep and updates
Phone operating systems are updated every year; an app needs updating now and then to keep working on new versions. With us, fixes in the first month after launch are free, and after that we continue with a monthly maintenance fee.
What to send us for a price
A few sentences on what the app will do, one or two apps it resembles and the platforms it should run on are enough. We work out the scope together and tell you the price. If you are torn between an app and a website, see our post "Mobile App or Website? Which One Should You Build?".
